I know some things that I definately need for my film. I have all of my drawings of course, but I have so many that it’ll be tough to narrow it down. I think most of them should reflect the mask since that’s where most of my inspiration comes from. The mask is something I also own and I may or may not incorporate it. The pictures of Michael will most likely be from the Internet and I might use a lot of them, creating some sort of short montage with them while the Halloween theme plays. My knee brace is important as well because that was what caused my change. My trophies and jersey will be in it too to help set up how I was before.
As far as music/ sound is concerned, the Halloween theme will be what most likely plays. After our discussion in class, I have a feeling that the Requiem For a Dream song is a good one, it may not work as well as I first thought. I don’t want people thinking my leg gets amputated like Kim had mentioned so I’ll stick with the Halloween theme. I don’t know however, which version I’ll use because like the mask, the theme too changes in every film. I’m thinking it’ll either be the original or maybe the Rob Zombie version because his has much more energy behind it and I think it’ll reflect my obsession a little more than the original. Leave some suggestions, let me know what you guys think.
Again with sound, I think really the only thing I’ll have in the beginning of my film is the sound of breaking bones and have that go with the shot of my brace.
I think for the language, I’m going to stick to my text boxes for the most part. Since I find myself relating to Michael so much, I think having my film silent with just the music would be important because he doesn’t speak. I’d shorten the text boxes so it wouldn’t be so difficult to read, but I’d have to choose my words wisely to get my point across so that’s something I’m taking careful consideration of. Again, any suggestions for this part would be greatly apperciated.

Jess,
I think your ideas that you have down are great. I think you took today’s class and really got down to figuring out your music and some of the ways you’ll portray your ideas. It seems to me you really have a lot going on with sound. I think the idea of having the Halloween theme will be very effective. Is there any other music in the movie that will help portray your beginning of your film? I also like your ideas of the text boxes. I think for you they will be very powerful and will give your audience a great effect. Good luck with it all!

I think that it would be great if you brought your pictures/drawings to class today..maybe we could help you pick and choose? I also liked the idea of the mask. Maybe you could zoom in on the mask and have it fade into your story; this might show how you relate to Michael. This idea might not be great, but you could work with it by incorporating the mask into your film more. I also like the idea of using the music from Halloween; I liked the idea of the Requiem for a Dream song until Kim made those comparisons. But I like the Rob Zombie song better because it is more upbeat, but I am not sure if you’d want a more upbeat song for your video because it isn’t the happiest of videos (if that makes sense). Text boxes also might be ideal, but maybe at the end you would want to do a voice over to let viewers know this is how you feel and what you think in the present.
Hi Jess—you had a really detailed storyboard, so I think much of your planning work is accomplished. Think carefully about what you can film and capture (montage pictures) today, and what you’ll need to get outside of class. Also, I wonder if you can’t introduce that idea of the mask earlier, so that your audience realizes that it’s an important symbol? (Perhaps as a title slide? Or in very short frames—almost subliminal—in anticipation of it’s arrival in relation to Michael?)
Finally, how are you going to get the sound of bones breaking, exactly?
Jess,
I definitely think your drawings are a crucial piece of your film–and maybe these objects you mention too (the mask and the leg brace…interesting). I see your point about silence, but as a viewer, I think I’m really going to want to hear your voice and have you guide me through this film (especially because you’re working with a subject that most people associate with fear, carnage, and horror). So, I’d rather have your voice than voice-less text boxes.
